GCAPS GUADALUPE COUNSELING & PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES

is a culturally competent Latino behavioral health care provider established

in 2018 in direct response to the health care disparities currently affecting Latino communities. GCAPS is a key resource for providing culturally-informed treatment and support services to Latino populations in Santa Barbara County including Goleta, Isla Vista, Santa Barbara, and Carpinteria. 

The mission of GCAPS is to assist individuals and families achieve emotional and psychological well-being through culturally sensitive mental health assessments and therapeutic services anchored in evidence-based science.

GCAPS is staffed by an experienced, knowledgeable, professionally trained, and fully credentialed bilingual psychologist and marriage and family therapist with 40 years experience working with Latino immigrant families, marital problems, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, and post-traumatic stress related to Latino immigration and acculturation. 

GCAPS builds on the rich history and principles of social justice, environmental justice, cultural competence in clinical practice, and community engagement.

Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe (Our Lady of Guadalupe) is a powerful cultural image for Mexican identity and faith. Guadalupe is the quintessential Great Mother for all Latinos – a cultural image of hope, grace, love, tolerance, acceptance, peace, health, protection, social justice, and family engagement.

Salvador Treviño, PhD

Dr. Treviño has taught professional psychology for 40 years and lectures extensively on the theories and practices of psychoanalytic psychotherapy, primitive mental states, and Latino behavioral health. Drawing on his scholarship of more than 40 years of community work with Latino immigrants and families, Dr. Treviño is active in furthering the national conversation on cultural diversity, the impact of historical trauma on Latino mental health, the psychology of racism, and matters of social justice from a psychoanalytic perspective. Dr. Treviño teaches, trains, and supervises doctoral students at the Antioch University Santa Barbara Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology.

 

Dr. Treviño is the Executive Director of GCAPS. He is licensed as a psychologist (PSY25108) and marriage and family therapist (LMFT21937) in California specializing in Latino behavioral health - salud mental Latina.
